Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to create a third set.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he secured victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
