Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
