The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US against five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures that were central to efforts to enact legislation regulating US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
